Current Needs

SWE-WI Professional Development Committee Members

Do you have a strong desire to help SWE-WI encourage and assist our members to attain high levels of educational and professional achievement?  How about promoting diversity, work life balance, communication skills, etc?  Then you should consider joining our section’s PD committee.  Some of the tasks you could help with or take the lead on are as follows:

  • Coordinate efforts of the section’s executive council as they create section meetings throughout the year.

  • Partner with collegiate sections and other organizations that share SWE’s values, to develop events.

  • Lead a committee to develop a large PD seminar or workshop this year or next.

  • Work directly with other members of the executive council to gain corporate sponsorship, advertise and promote our events, and ensure we provide our members with professional events that meet their wants and needs.

  • Welcome attendees to SWE events.

  • Collect feedback at each meeting for use in improving future meetings.

Contact Betty Leonhard (betzluvzvetz-AT-yahoo.com) if interested in assisting your section at any level of the PD committee.

  • Provide “thank you” gifts to our continued sponsors and/or to our advertisers.

  • Write letters to our sponsors/advertisers and sends plaques, group photos, or small memorabilia as a “thank you”.

We are still looking for interested individuals for the following roles within SWE-WI:

-Awards & Recognition Chair
-Archives/Historian Chair

-Future City Competition Liaison

-Kimberly-Clark Corp. Liaison

-WI Girls Collaborative Project Representative

Also, keep in mind that any of our committee chairs would be happy to have you on their committee!

The Collegiate Leadership Coach Committee (CLCC), former Collegiate Section Vitality Task Force, is looking for more coaches to support the student sections. They would like to have one Collegiate Leadership Coach (CLC) for every 5 schools in the Region. Currently, Region H has 43 collegiate sections and we have only 3 CLCs. We definitely can use more coaches. If interested, please contact Cathi Yee (Catherine.yee-AT-swe.org) directly for  n application form. Thank you for your support in advance!

Girl Scout Survivor Camp
When:  July 20-25, 2008
Time commitment:  1 day for ~3 hours in the morning
Where:  Camp Alice Chester in East Troy, WI
What:  The Survivor camp consists of engineering-related activities based on the reality show Survivor that are intended to interest girls in engineering and to show them what different types of engineers there are and what they typically do. Each day of the camp focuses on a different type of engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Civil, Industrial), with the activities geared towards the type of engineering that is featured for the day. We are currently revamping the camp to include new and improved activities to keep it fun and interesting since the camp has been held by the Girl Scouts for several years now and there are occasional repeat customers to the camp.

The camp will be held from July 20-25, 2008 at Camp Alice Chester in East Troy. We are currently looking for volunteers to help lead the activities and to discuss what it is like to be an engineer with the girls; volunteers would need to be present at the camp from 9:45 am until approximately 11:15 am. Anyone interested in participating should please contact Julie McMullin at jmcmullin-AT-brwncald.com.

See how much fun we had in 2005!

If you would like to participate or would like more information, please contact Julie McMullin
(jmcmullin-AT-brwncald.com).
