November 21, 2002: SWE members enjoyed VIP treatment at the
Milwaukee Art Museum with the purchase of their $10 tickets. The
highlight of the evening was a tour led by one of the project managers who
was in charge of building the new wing. He described the design
challenges that they faced as they built the concrete arches, and how they
designed and built the huge windows facing the lke and the high winds
coming across it.
There were 50 people in attendance, and all got to peruse the art gallery
featuring paintings dating from the 14th century up through the
Renaissance. Detailed descriptions of each work of art was a part of
the audio show available through headphones as you entered. The
subjects of the pieces ranged from still life paintings and portraits of
people of the day, to somewhat graphic pieces reflecting the history of
Christianity and how it was viewed. |
