Building a Stitch and Glue Kayak

Step # 1

Cut fiberglass using pattern pieces

Step # 2

Round inside bottom edges

Stitch along bottom seam

Stitch along bottom joint

Step # 3

Attach floor jig 8" behind floor joint

Step # 4

C clamp bow and stern

Finish stitching bottom seam

Step # 5

Bevel floor along side seam

Step # 6

Laminate side front and side rear together

with 4" side joint doubler.Stitch sides

together at the stern. Stitch sides to bottom.

Step # 7

Stitch on side bow peak.

Step # 8

Remove floor jig

Check for hull twist.

Fill all seams with epoxy filler

Step # 9

Place weight in center to insure

good rocker.

Step # 10

Stitch deck together.

Step #11

Laminate fiber glass on hull floor

and underside of the deck

Tape all seams and joints on

hull and deck.

Step # 12

Fit bow and stern eye.

Laminate deck seats to hull.

Step # 13

Bevel deck seats and deck seams.

Step # 14

Laminate deck to hull.

Step # 15

Remove all stitches.

Fill all stitch holes with

wood putty and sand boat.

Step # 16

Laminate fiber glass to outside of floor.

Tape all outside seams.

Step # 17

Laminate cockpit coaming and seat.

Fit in footpegs.

Finishing boat

2 coats of epoxy

3 coats of varnish or marine polyurethane.
